Math Mammoth focuses on the understanding of mathematical concepts, uses clear explanations, lots of visual exercises and pattern exercises, mastery-oriented: concentrates fairly long on a topic, with fairly few topics per grade, emphasizes mental math and developing number sense, very little teacher preparation needed. Needs: Semester One – Worktext 2A, Semester Two- Worktext 2B
Notes: A great curriculum that covers all skills really well. Crammed full of information so page layout can seem a little overwhelming. No color. A great fit for the student that gets Math. Placement Test
There are lots of youtube videos by Maria Miller (the author) Here
Beta builds on the foundation in Alpha by applying students’ mastery of single-digit addition and subtraction to multiple-digit addition and subtraction. One of the stepping stones between these two levels is the concept of place value, which is an important milestone for truly grasping any multiple-digit operation.
Notes: Math-U-See is great for hands on learners. It can be quite repetitive and doesn’t contain many reviews. Placement Test
The students are provided with the necessary learning experiences beginning with the concrete and pictorial stages, followed by the abstract stage to enable them to learn mathematics meaningfully. This approach encourages active thinking process, communication of mathematical ideas and problem-solving. This helps develop the foundation students will need for more advanced mathematics. Practice exercises are designed to provide the students with further practice after they have done the relevant workbook exercises. Review exercises are provided for cumulative reviews of concepts and skills. All the practice exercises and review exercises are optional exercises. Learn More
Needs: Semester One – Workbook A, Textbook A, Home Instructor Guide A. Semester two – Workbook B, Textbook B, Home Instructor Guide B.
Notes: Colorful kid-friendly pages. Placement Test
Saxon’s Math 2 Kit continues teaching young minds in an incremental manner, slowly building upon previously learned concepts and increasing retention. Math 2 covers working with larger numbers, geometric shapes, Venn diagrams, graphs, basic calculations, simple fractions and multi-step problems. Learn More
Needs: Teachers Manual, Meeting Book, Student Workbooks and fact cards, Manipulatives (48 baby bear counters, 100 color tiles, a complete set of double nine dominoes, 2 geoboards with rubber bands, 1 hundred number board, 100 linking cubes, 100 pattern blocks, 1 primary balance, 2 rulers, 2 student clocks, 1 set of four tangrams, 25 two-color counting discs).
Notes: Saxon Math has a very dry presentation. The pages are devoid of color, but it has lots of reviews and is a well-respected curriculum. Placement Test
Mathematical Reasoning™ helps students devise strategies to solve a wide variety of math problems. This book emphasizes problem-solving and computation to build the math reasoning skills necessary for success in higher-level math and math assessments. This book is written to the standards of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. The Level C book is a complete curriculum for the second grade level.
These highly effective activities take students far beyond drill-and-practice by using step-by-step, discussion-based problem-solving to develop a conceptual bridge between computation and the reasoning required for upper-level math. Activities and units spiral slowly, allowing students to become comfortable with concepts but also challenging them to continue building their math skills. Learn More
Needs: No additional needs
Notes: Colorful pages, self directed.
This unique, award-winning, hands-on program de-emphasizes counting, uses visualization of quantities, and provides strategies and visual pictures for learning the facts. Understanding and problem solving are emphasized throughout the curriculum. The primary learning tool is the AL Abacus, a specially designed two-sided abacus that is both kinesthetic and visual. The AL Abacus is grouped in fives and tens for quick recognition of quantities. The second side of the AL Abacus teaches place value to the thousands. Children develop visual strategies as they use this manipulative. Practice is provided with math card games, minimizing review worksheets and eliminating stressful flash cards. These games provide interesting and varied repetition that is needed for the automatic responses to the facts. More importantly, these games provide an application for new information and create hours of fun learning math facts and concepts. Learn More

Over the course of a school year, students solve well over 5,000 interactive puzzles, each one providing animated feedback that adapts to a student’s response. This informative feedback offers an intrinsically motivating learning experience that shows students the mathematical consequences of each answer.
Students experience autonomy in ST Math, where action is critical and mistakes are the perfect opportunity for learning.
Math concepts are first presented without the use of language and symbols, enabling all students to access the critical thinking and visual problem solving at the heart of mathematics. Symbols are gradually introduced as the puzzles progress, so that by the end of the learning path students are solving the same math problems they would encounter in a textbook or on a standardized test. Through this process, students develop conceptual understanding of abstract symbols and procedures
Early primary-grade math lays the framework for all later mathematical skills and is also vitally important for everyday life. Ensure that your students understand every aspect of adding and subtracting multiple numbers, writing fractions, carrying, multiplication, money, telling time, advanced place value, mental multiplication, whole numbers, decimals, perimeter, area, temperature, the metric system, and bar & line graphs with Teaching Textbooks 3. The workbook contains all the problem and practice sets, as well as written summaries of each lecture; the summaries conveniently allow children to skim over the text instead of re-watching the lecture if they forget a key point.
An included digital grade book grades answer as soon as they are entered and calculates percentages for each assignment. The CD-ROMs feature step-by-step audiovisual solutions to every one of the thousands of homework and test problems. Learn More
